What will likely be our final shoot of 2017, we gave our friend Gillian, of GC-Chan Cosplay, a call. We were hoping to get to 20 entries in our Wonder Women series by the end of the year, and Gillian was the perfect person to help us bring it home. We got a great set of images out of a quick strobist shoot in Crystal City. We were hoping to shoot somewhere new, but the weather decided to be, while warm, very uncooperative.
Gillian had this magnificent blue and gold dress that looked simply amazing on her. I believe she said it was her prom dress a little while ago.... Paired with our bronze guard Agincourt broadsword, it looked amazing. This sword was the 2nd sword I ever bought, back in high school, and I'm glad we had it on hand.
Huge thank you to Gillian for her time, expect to see lots more of her in the future.
Ms. Phillips-Brown is back! Her Masque set earlier this year was amazing, she took to the studio so naturally and we got some stunning images. Naturally we had to invite her to join us for Wonder Women. The weather was not terribly cooperative this week, but we made a few calls and found a wonderful space in Fairfax that was willing to let us shoot there for a bit.
Anna showed up with an amazing silver scale dress, something that I imagine Wonder Woman herself would choose for a formal event. She's changed her hair from the beautiful sliver, to a rich brunette tone, which we just loved. It gave us some fantastic tones in the natural light of our space. From our collection of blades, Anna chose a single handed broadsword with a leaf blade, made by the fantastic smiths of Baltimore Knife and Sword. It all came together wonderfully, with the sword, the dress, and Anna herself just shining wonderfully for us. Our deepest thanks to Anna for being such a great subject for us. We look forward to having a chance to work with her again soon.
Some of you may remember Olivia way back from our Concrete Elegance: Red series, when she stepped in at the last minute to fill in for another model, and really saved our butts. She's back! We contacted her about our Wonder Women series and she was in! She brought a beautiful, full-length black dress and a fur shrug to meet us at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, VA. The late morning light and the gardens themselves gave us a beautiful backdrop for Olivia to play in. She chose a custom swept hilt rapier from the swordsmiths of Rogue Steel. I've had this piece in my collection for many years now, it's a beautiful design and wonderfully balanced.
A touch on the cold side, but we got some amazing images. Huge thank you to Oliva for her time and talent. We'll have to shoot with her again soon, she's a lovely woman and she works so well with the camera.
Really enjoying this mild weather we've been having! The lovely temperatures got us up and moving for our 4th Arcana shoot. The fabulous Samantha Kane of Nasty Woman Cosplay joined up and we created the look and setups for our Bokor! A bokor is a Voodoo sorcerer for hire who is said to serve the loa 'with both hands', practicing for both good and evil. Our designs and setups are based more in myth and fiction than in any specific belief system, but I think we really nailed the look down perfectly. A little photoshopping for effects here and there and we made some really magical shots (pun intended!).
This brings us to 4 Arcana shoots! They take a bit longer than most of our other projects, so we run them a lot less often, but it's a wonderfully fun project and we've got a lot more plans in the works. To see what we've pulled off so far, check out our Arcana Page.
Switching gears again back to our Arcana series, we called FightGuy Photography favorite, Keely, and asked her what she wanted to dress up as. She was very keen on something with a witchy vibe, and also brought up the Shadowhunter series. We thought, "Why not both?" and we created a fantastic mashup of the Harry Potter style wizard and the Mortal Instruments style Shadowhunter. What we landed on was a bit of an Auror with a great fashion sense.
Keely supplied us with a wand she picked up at Disney World, and we pulled together elements of our costume closet to find something fantastic. Boots, fishnets, a cape, a fancy black dress...a blade...a hat...some runes... We're thrilled with the look we got and we love this 4th entry in our Arcana series.
Stay tuned! We have another Arcana shoot hot on the heels of this one!
