Our 16th entry in our Wonder Women series is our friend Hannah! I met Hannah years ago at a summer theater program, she was one of my best stage combat students, and I was thrilled to follow her adventures as she went into the world of photography. Her work is excellent, I hope she sticks with it. Hannah is also an accomplished musician and martial artist. When we had some time in the studio (the always excellent Union 206), we sent her a message and were very jazzed to hear she was interested in joining us.
For her Wonder Women wardrobe, Hannah brought with her a few dresses, including this lovely, flowy blue/green number. One shoulder with a lot of float and flow to it, it worked fantastically. Her sword selection is a katana we've used in a number of shoots before, including in the hands of Darling, from our Sucker Punched Series. Beautifully balanced, it was a gift, many years ago from a girlfriend who became my lovely wife, Abbi. The katana is most famous for being the primary weapon of the Japanese Samurai warriors. In Hannah's hands, it had the grace and poise deserving of such a heritage.
That puts us at 16 for our Wonder Women series. We'll see what the weather and our studio budget allows for. I'm hoping we can make it to 20 or more by the end of the year.
Our friend Nikisha has been a great supporter of our projects for a few years now and we're always excited to plan out a shoot with her. Decked out in a beautiful vintage black dress, Nikisha brought her A game to our sunset shoot in Old Town Manassas. Her choice from our armory was a single handed dueling saber made by the bladesmiths of Baltimore Knife and Sword. We picked that piece up at the Winter Wonderland Workshop several years ago. Adding in a fabulous sunset from Mother Nature herself, and we had ourselves a fantastic shoot. Great thanks to Nikisha, and her baby wrangler Marty.
Stay tuned for more entries in our Wonder Women series. Just a few months left in the year, but we're curious to see how many shoots we can manage to fit in. As always, to see more images from this series, visit it's page or check out our gallery on Flickr
