ONE trip to the studio, TWO amazing SP4 shoots. We're really moving smoothly through this season and I could not be happier with the images we're putting together.
First up we had Orisen cosplay join us for her character, Ash! The theme for this character took a few turns on the way to this final incarnation. What started as a 1930s, Agent Carter kind of vibe ended at Grecian demi-god. I'm not sure how we went from one to the other, but the final product looks amazing. Alexa made the vast majority of her outfit, the dress, the belt, the headdress.... and they looked amazing. With a little more time, I have no doubt she would have taken it upon herself to make the sword, trident AND lightning effects.
Her character looks amazing, and gives me a chance to play with some new Photoshop effects, which I'm always grateful for.
Next up Emma, who you might remember from her Wonder Women shoot, joined us to make her character, Marlo leap off the drawing board. This character was inspired by vibes of Catwoman, Shadowrun, the movie Equilibrium, The Matrix.... and it's a pretty cool look. Emma brought us a lot of awesome ideas and we got to work and shape them into a fantastic character for her. Coupled with Emma's dance background, we had another case of almost too many good photos! Some of the outfits lend themselves to a "with/without" option, and Emma's many props and the jacket gave us a lot of combinations to work with.
In any event, she did a great job and we're thrilled with how both shoots turned out. Lots more photos in the works, and group shoots for these two warrior women!
Our first blessed trip to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this weekend! The first time we've ever been at opening weekend! Lots of great shows, lots of great friends, both old and new, lots to see and love. The Renn Faire really is our happy place, we get so much joy out of shooting there, watching the amazing shows (Like the wonderful singers of Sirena), and making new friends. If you see us there, say hi! I promise we are super friendly!
Well, that was quite a week! Wow! The FightGuy Photography team took a quick road trip up to Chicago with two specific purposes in mind. First, we were thrilled to be shooting engagement photos for our dear friends, Caitlin and Jim, who we simply do not get to see enough. Second, we were picking up our next SP4 model, the fantastic stuntwoman and actor, Gabrielle Perrea! You may remember Gabby from our last trip up to Chicago, when we got a chance to do an amazing Wonder Women shoot with her in the (windy!) Museum Campus in Chicago. After that amazing shoot, we had to see if we could get her into SP4! Thankfully we made it work and we had a little mini road trip to pick her up and make some magic happen. We got to spend a ton of awesome time with Gabby, talking about random life stuff, sharing stories, and putting together 4 different shoots! First, we did a two look boudoir shoot with her in our mid-point hotel room (it's a long drive), which was awesome. Gabby was really excited to do something sexy and fun and she brought some amazing energy, we almost got too many great photos!
Next up we did a set of headshots /promotional images for Gabby, which she was super easy to work with. It's always refreshing to work with professionals who have modelling experience, everything just flows. We both speak the same language and everything just makes sense.
Third up, we shot her SP4 character! Gabby put a ton of thought into her wild woman warrior character, Tazmania, and everything clicked really beautifully. Abbi's makeup job was off the hook, and our shoot flowed together fantastically. One of our easiest shoots, no doubt.
Fun fact, Gabby is a professional axe thrower and coach to aspiring axe throwers!
Our fourth and final shoot with Gabby was her SP4 group shoot! We got Rebecca, Evelyn, Alani, and our special guest from Season 2, Ally, to join us for an epic photo set. Huge thanks to all these ladies, especially Ally, for joining us for this set. It was awesome. Only had time to edit the preview shot, so stay tuned for further images from this shoot.
Above and beyond all else, thanks to Gabby for taking a huge chunk of time out of her life to go on a road trip and mini-vacation to DC with some folks she doesn't really know all that well, all in service of this project and the mission to support RAINN.
With a project this big, we don't get much time away from it! Two more Sucker Punched solo shoots are in the can!
First up was our new friend, model and artist, Cheska J! We met Cheska through our amazing friend Lexi (who you might remember from her character, Zahra, and her Wonder Women shoot with us) and we're so glad we did! Cheska has an amazing presence and she's immensely fun to work with. She's also set a new record for the Sucker Punched series, at 4'10", she is officially our shortest SP model.
Cheska came to us with a few ideas, and we worked with her to figure out a great wasteland warrior look, something straight out of Mad Max, or the Fallout video game series. She made herself an amazing top, based on some ideas we spotted around the web, but could not in any way afford. (How ironic is it that wasteland fashion is so incredibly expensive?). Her character, Jaz, is a brilliant combination of our ideas, and really shines in this photo series.
We're looking forward to more shoots with Cheska, in the meantime, follow her on Instagram @hicheska
Our next shoot, the very same day, was with Evelyn of Mays Create Cosplay. Her concept was heavy on the punk rock, lots of leather, with some thigh high boots. We loved it. She also wanted to work her background in chemistry into the mix, which we were all too happy to figure out. We put together this sniper/chemical weapons/explosive expert outfit that is really awesome. Not going to lie, making that C4 explosive prop was one of the more uncomfortable prop making experiences I've had. Prop guns are one thing, a prop bomb is something else.
Huge thanks to Evelyn for having so much fun with her character concept and bringing her A game to the studio. For more from the Mays Create team, check them out on Facebook.
Shout out to the team at Preferred Arms Theatrical Weapon Rentals, for providing us with both long guns for these shoots, the historical machine gun for Jaz, and the sniper rifle for Honey. If you're in need of prop weapons, they are the place to go!
And now for something different! Taking a small break from Sucker Punched 4 shoots to do a proper test shoot with Melanie, as we missed out on that due to scheduling conflicts during our casting session. We met up with Melanie at the studio, she got to try on her SP4 outfit (just a few adjustments and it'll be perfect!) and we got her all glammed up for a Wonder Woman shoot!
As we suspected, Melanie is a great model and a lot of fun to work with. She's a stuntwoman and a very dedicated movement professional, and it shows in her posing and collaborative mindset. We got some amazing photos from her shoot, some of my absolute favorites of the series and we can't wait to see how she brings that same energy to her SP4 shoot, and hopefully many other shoots thereafter.
Back for more! We've had a wonderful pair of shoots with our longtime friend, stuntwoman Sabreena Candreva! Up from Atlanta to join in on the mayhem and madness once more, Sabreena had just one request this time around, she asked for a bigger sword. Something bigger than the 42 inch bastard sword from my collection that she used in Sucker Punched 3. We made some calls, and as it turns out, we have some amazing friends at the Baltimore Knife and Sword forge, who loaned us this... massive....epic...gargantuan (I love that word, but I so rarely get to use it in a sentence) sword! It certainly fits the bill for being bigger than last year's blade.
Also! Sabreena made her scalemail armor herself over the past few months! While we loved the piece that was loaned to us by Gorgeous Chain last time, Sabreena wanted to try her hand at making something epic for her character, and it was spot on perfect. Huge thanks to Sabreena for her time and craft, because it looks amazing.
For more of our work with Sabreena, check out her gallery on Flickr.
Immediately following Sabreena's shoot, and I mean like... a half hour later, we jumped right into our next Sucker Punched 4 group shoot! Featuring Sabreena, Nikisha, Rebecca and Sami! We don't have anything but a preview image from that shoot, we've been so busy trying to catch up on solo shoots! But rest assured, the ladies in question were amazing and we got some fantastic shots. Stay tuned for lots more Sucker Punched greatness! We've got a lot more models ready to show off their amazing characters!
Hello friends! Another update from the magical land of Sucker Punched 4! We're moving right along with this series, as big and epic as it is, we've got loads of images shot and the shoots just keep on coming!
We had Rebecca Scruggs, EMT, former pagent model, and all around swell person join us for the creation of her cyber-punk warrior, Punkie! Rebecca asked if she could have a motorcycle in her shoot, and after making a few phone calls, we were pleased to give her a resounding yes! Rebecca is a wonderful model and we've really been just pleased as punch to have her as a friend and person of interest in this series. She's one of our #ActualAmazons, at 5 foot 10, with lots of fitness and martial arts training under her belt. Did we mention she's an EMT? She's got some amazing stories from her time on the Boo Boo Bus!
For more of our work with Rebecca, check out the set she did for our Masque series.
Very shortly after Rebecca's run as Punkie, we had another of our Actual Amazon's in the studio. Mallory Denison is 6 feet of horse riding, crossfit training power. She's also awesome and super sweet and we love hanging out with her.
Her character, Ryah, was inspired by a combo of High Fantasy elements (think Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, or Wizards First Rule) and her Native American heritage. She looks great in red, and with those shoes on, Mallory was 6 foot 5 inches tall! Abbi needed a stepladder whenever she had to adjust the hood!
Mallory is another spectacular addition to the Sucker Punched series and we're thrilled she took the time to be part of the action. You can see more of her work with us in her Wonder Women shoot.
Next we got to shoot with our wonderful friend, DC actor and performance artist, Ms. Alani Kravitz. You may remember Alani from her amazing Wonder Women and Masque shoots with us. Well she managed to top them with her SP4 character, Ruby. She had this wonderful Victorian concept that we just ran with, playing with layers and lace and bold colors. She looks amazing and her shoot was so much fun! Shout out to the blacksmiths of Baltimore Knife and Sword for that amazing saber she's working with.
We've got a lot more shoots, already booked and planned out! Stay tuned for some new images of some amazing characters! As always, lots of love to our backers and fans!
