Khrist returns! And she brought a friend! Our dear friend Khrist was on the road again and she was headed through Virginia. We met up with her in Crystal City for a fantastic Gothic themed strobist shoot. Bonus for us, she had her friend and protege, Celena Rayne with her, who sat with us for a few set ups and we got some additional great images of. Be sure to follow both of these wonderful models on their pages to see more of their adventures!
Samantha joins us for another shoot! She's become such a great friend since we started working with her (check out her shoots in Masque and Sucker Punched 3) and we were very excited to get her into the Wonder Women series! Sami brought with her two beautiful dresses and we hit two beautiful locations.
At Lake Anne in Reston, we shot Sami with a blue dress and a fantastic Khopesh, a blade of Egyptian origin, made by the smiths of Baltimore Knife and Sword. (Who you should really check out on their web series, Man at Arms: Reforged!), rented to us from Preferred Arms.
Sami's red dress was accompanied by a yataghan, also made by the bladesmiths at Baltimore Knife and Sword.
With the beautiful Lake Ann as a backdrop, we got some wonderful shots. Sami really brought her A game and carried some extraordinary presence with her to the shoot. We've got lots more plans to shoot with Sami in the future, so stay tuned! And you can follow her adventures on her page at Nasty Woman Cosplay!
Becki Turner is a lovely young woman. We've worked with her as a cosplayer, we've hung out with her and shot with her at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, we did a fantastic portrait session with her in Crystal City, and now we've included her in our Wonder Women series. She's a DC performer, through and through. Actress and cosplayer, with a dance background, and a knack for finding poses.
We had a fantastic alignment of the universe with this shoot, not only did we get our schedules to sync up, but Becki has an amazing turquoise dress that flowed magically, and the weather could not have been nicer. We had beautiful sun with a few clouds, a strong breeze and perfect temperatures. The ambiance of Crystal City was once again our backdrop, and Becki gave us her best Warrior Princess vibe.
Her sword for this series is a World War II America Dress Saber, with sheath, it's one of the few antique blades in our collection, and was a gift to me when I was 15 from a family friend. Took me months to restore it back to it's current shine.
While editing these images, I do believe I was inspired upon what will be our mission statement for this project.
With a tip of the hat and a nod to George R.R. Martin....
"There is a warrior in the heart of every woman, and she rises when you put a sword in her hand."
Thanks to Becki for being such an inspiration. She's everything we're looking for in this series. Stay tuned, we've got a lot more images and a lot more shoots in mind.
Two shoots in one evening! Our friend Ilyana Eberhardt, who you may remember from our Sucker Punched 3 set, was in town and had the evening free! The storm was just letting up and we jumped at the chance to do a shoot. With one eye on the weather, we had Ily dress up to the nines and handed her one of our swords, making her the latest in our Wonder Women series! A quick trip to Cabell's Mill in Chantilly (and occasionally dodging raindrops!) got us some amazing images. Ilyana's beauty and martial arts experience gave us some fantastic images with very little effort on my part. The woman has some extraordinary presence, and we love working with her.
Ilyana's sword for her Wonder Women shoot is a stainless steel "Ninjato" sword, japanese design that is a straight blade variation on the traditional katana. One of the oldest non-antique swords in our collection, I got this one when I was 15 at a flea market in Jessup, MD. It's not the nicest sword we own, but it's got a great look and really worked with Ilyana's outfit and poses.
After a quick gown-and-sword set up, we headed back to the office for a quick change into the first of what will hopefully be many shoots honoring one of my favorite movies of all time, The Crow (the original, not-so-much the sequels). Among Ilyana's many talents is an extraordinary gift for makeup, and she nailed this one. Two shoots in one evening and spectacular shots from both, what more could a photographer ask for?
Expect to see Ilyana again here soon, and expect a lot more from our Wonder Women series!
A few weeks ago we were talking with a good friend of ours, Lauren, about how we run our modeling shoots. Happy to say she decided to give it a shot! Something she claimed she'd never thought she'd do, and here she was, just rocking it. Lauren has great presence and the camera really likes her. We struck out to a few quiet spots in Fairfax and let the setting sun do most of the heavy lifting, followed by a few strobist shots as things got darker.
It was really great shooting with Lauren and we've already talked out a few ideas for other shoots. No longer a first-timer!
If these fashion portraits are something you're looking for yourself or for a friend, contact us today and let's book a shoot! We love working with first time models, and we're happy to set up a fashion shoot that will make you feel fantastic!
