Our first Katsucon and it was a blast! Two and a half day at the Gaylord Convention Center, meeting some amazing people and shooting photos of amazing outfits. It's a fantastic place to be. We're not the most versed in new Anime or Video Games so we mostly spent the days walking around saying "Wow! I have no idea what that is, but it looks amazing!". We have no talent for building costumes and props and nothing but the utmost respect for those that do.
Overall it's a really solid event. Lots of great panels, tons of amazing vendors on the vendor floor (Including several of our favorites, like Gorgeous Chain and Crimson Chain Leatherworks, who always seem to get a serious chunk of our money when we hit the con circuit.) The Gaylord Convention Center is a fantastic backdrop for the event, and while it might get seriously crowded with the sea of cosplayers, gives us a ton of fantastic spots to shoot amazing photos. And the unseasonably warm weather this year was a major bonus for us, we could easily duck outside and take advantage of it. Katsucon Staff was a little under trained, but generally a friendly and on point group of people. We are certainly putting this one on our calendar for next year. Hopefully after a few crash courses on the latest popular video games and anime.
We got to meet and briefly shoot with such amazing cosplayers as Nasty Woman Cosplay, Katt Noir, Crystalharted, Keren Lin Cosplay, Cassie Fray, Alanaleilani, Cami Cosplay, Mohrigan Cosplay, Jazzy Cosplay, Teensie bug, Envy Us, Neocoolstar Cosplay, and so many more! For the full run, check out our gallery on our Facebook Page.
Abbi got to meet her cosplay and modeling idol, Vivid Vivka, who was super sweet! Flying in from LA to attend her first Katsu and she was just the best!
We were blessed to meet up with Viva Valentina Thursday evening and Ms Dana Belle on Friday for a pair of quick boudior shoots. We've been big fans of these cosplay models for a while now and it was wonderful to get to hang out and shoot with them for a bit. We're already planning future meet ups to get more shoots done. Two extraordinary women, both fantastic, striking models.
Ladies and Gentlemen, after one test shoot and one solid shoot, we are happy to announce that we have a new project up and running! Inspired by a still from the upcoming Wonder Woman film, we're happy to announce our latest project, Wonder Women. We met our friend and model, Lexi Haddad at Union 206 to make the magic! We plan to have Wonder Women as an ongoing series, like Masque, so look for more shoots in the coming weeks and months! We have no shortage of amazing people to work with and we're always meeting more! We're very excited for what's coming up!
With Lexi's elegant dresses, we chose a pair of rapiers for her to work with. With the black dress, we have a stainless steel replica of the sword used in The Mask Of Zorro, purchased when I was 17 years old, I believe from a catalogue. It's a lovely blade, and matched her dress perfectly.
With the purple dress, we had Lexi wielding a rapier made by Rogue Steel from Chicago. It's an ambidextrous swept hilt design that I've always favored in my stage combat rapiers.
One of our plans for Wonder Women is that we're not going to stay in the studio! If any of our friends and fans have a beautiful setting they'd like to loan to us, please don't hesitate to contact us! We'd be intensely grateful. Ballrooms, lounges, fancy foyers, gardens, whatever.
Any place that might be described as "elegant" might be perfect for us.
To all our Stage Combat friends far and wide, the photos from the 2017 MACE WInter Wonderland Stage Combat Workshop are up and ready for your viewing and purchasing pleasure.
